GIVING PEOPLE AN ADDRESS AND ADDRESSING PEOPLES NEEDS |
(Sign in main reception at Dean street)
Welcome to a hostel in the heart of London
- the most, if not the richest capital city in the world.
This site was brought about through necessity.
It isn't until you become homeless that you
find out how little your opinion matters.
There does seem to be alot of money in dealing
with the homeless and for a company willing
to deal with them it definitely seems worth
it. With the housing benefit maximum outlay,
We the residents receive a paltry return.
In every area of what is required to exist
- our hostel fails to deliver on any of them.
The 'service' we receive is disturbing. Admittedly
the hostel has a terrible reputation. A convenient
excuse.
Persons are not correctly assessed when they
enter Dean street. There are numerous people
here with visible mental difficulties that
require immediate help and are not getting
it. Its quite simple really - out of sight
is out of mind.
Our aims are to bring needed immediate attention
to our homeless situation in the borough
of Westminster and to inform the public of
how much money it costs them to house a homeless
person in a Novas hostel and in what conditions
we live. We shall be looking at what the
resident's receive.
395.00 per WEEK housing benefit and 16.03
per week from the resident to stay here.
There are 127 residents at Dean street.
That makes roughly 2.5 Million pounds a
year.
We have no recreational budget. We receive
sub adequate nutrition. Our 'keyworkers'
are overstretched with their own regular
daily chores and cannot help us. Our resettlement
options are limited to say the least.
We will be featuring pictures of a typical
everyday food menu.
We are at this time in contact with nutritionists
to give their opinion of whether our dietary
requirements are being met. This will include
our meals - breakfast and dinner.
We will also find out if our food is value
for money/ quality.
We will be including photographs of our living
conditions. We can assure that pictures will
be vetted by ourselves (residents) as to
not disgust.
We are homeless and some have experienced
this on more that one occasion in our lives.
We will be featuring information from Westminster
council.
Updates on our resettlement.
As you can probably tell by the site - We
are not web designers ! Though at some point,
if we get pc'd up, will be getting our teeth
hard into Macromedia Flash so hopefully we
can expect some more interactivity, faster
and correct loading and a general smoother
interface all round. We are also wanting
to get submitted to many search engines so
if anyone out there reads this and can help
please email us.

Thank you.
